Cases Of Bright And Needy Students Deserting Their Studies Are Not New And This Is Why Sh 112m Has Been Set Aside

Cases of bright and needy students deserting their studies are not new in Narok County. Their quest to complete their studies is never fulfilled as poverty keeps them out of school.

But this will soon be a forgotten tale, as the county government has launched an annual bursary programme to support needy students.
The bursaries target students from low-income families to ensure they complete their studies. According to Governor Samuel ole Tunai, the Sh112 million bursary fund will bridge the gap between rich students and those from less fortunate families who may not have a chance to go to secondary school, college or universities.

The development comes in the wake of increased enrolment in schools within Narok following the introduction of free primary and secondary education by the national government in 2004

According to the 2009 Kenya Population and Housing Census, it was projected that by 2012, pre-primary school going population would be 113,779 and the primary school going age population would be 240,212 (122,533 boys and 117,679 girls) in Narok County .
By 2014, those who are actually in school in the county is 53,027 and 219,699 for pre-primary and primary schools.
